Robertson Files for S.C. House District 105

Publisher Steve Robertson hopes to put what he’s learned covering Horry County news for 40 years to work for the people of South Carolina as a legislator.

The 67-year-old filed Monday for the S.C. House of Representatives District 105 seat.

A resident of Horry County for more than 44 years, Robertson retired recently as publisher of the Waccamaw Publishers family of community newspapers.

His son Stephen Robertson Jr. was named publisher March 23, 2020.

About my husband...

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I asked Steve to use his space in this week’s ad to write a letter that he would never do himself. You see, my husband is modest of his accomplishments and doesn’t like to brag on his self. So, I am going to do it for him!

Many people may not know this, but Steve has distinguished himself over his 45-year career in the newspaper business as one of the most successful publishers in South Carolina. He’s done it with hard work, dedication to the truth and leadership qualities that have endeared him to his employees and our community.
Steve grew his first newspaper, the Horry Independent, into a company that has six other newspapers and a website that reaches more than 150,000 people every month in Horry County. Our papers provide factual, reliable and interesting news to Conway, Aynor, Loris, Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Carolina Forest, Surfside Beach and all points between.

Because he hates to brag on himself, preferring to give the credit to his staff, you probably do not know that Steve’s newspapers have been judged best in the state on more than 10 occasions. He personally has won many, many awards for writing and design. He has been honored as a champion of open government and the FOIA.
These awards tell you a lot about my husband. He is a man of integrity who isn’t afraid to take on the powers-that-be in order to get to the truth. I believe he will take that same passion for open government to Columbia when he is elected to the S.C. House of Representatives from District 105.

Steve has distinguished himself as a private citizen, too. He is a past president of the S.C. Press Association. He has been recognized as the Conway Chamber of Commerce “Man of the Year,” the Horry County Post 111 Distinguished Citizen, the Coastal Carolina University Entrepreneur of the Year, and even Loris Bog Off Champion (he laughs about taking my fine china to the competition).

Thank you for letting me brag on my hubbie. I will miss him on those days when I cannot be with him in Columbia, but I will be consoled by the fact that he is working hard for the people he serves…just like he has done for his readers all of these years.

I ask that you vote for my husband June 9 for the S.C. House District 105.

Thank you,
Cheryl Robertson

Your safety comes first.

Due the corona virus outbreak, I won't be able to see many of you in person over the next few weeks before the primary. This saddens me because I was looking forward to meeting you in person. Hopefully, we will soon get this crisis behind us and can start getting things back to normal.

Meanwhile, there are a few things you can do to stay up to date on the campaign.
